Max Baucus is a trained lawyer who has served over 30 years in the United States Senate, representing his home state of Montana. In this period, spanning six electoral terms, he presided as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, the Joint Committee on Taxation, and the Subcommittee on Transport and Infrastructure. During his Chairmanship of the Finance Committee, he was highly influential in reforming national healthcare policy. After stepping down as Senator in 2014, Baucus was sworn in as the 11th U.S. Ambassador to China by President Barack Obama. His leadership was marked by a substantial increase in trade between China and the U.S., resulting from the dismantlement of numerous trade barriers between the two countries, leading to significant economic growth and development for both nations. He is widely regarded as a leading voice globally in the U.S.-China relationship.
